Hand-carved figureheads
These newly carved custom pieces are made just for us and are inspired by
vintage artifacts we've seen along the way.
They're carved of a dense
wood called "Suar" wood and if you keep them oiled with linseed or teak oil,
they'll retain a beautiful luster.
Our hand carved, artisan
made pieces are unique and made one at a time (i.e. not mass produced).
It
is rare to find two pieces exactly the same and it is common to find
blemishes.
Suar wood is carved when wet - this
means that checking (non structural cracks in the surface of the wood) is
common
and may continue as a piece is moved from a location with high
humidity (where we are located) to one of low humidity.
These carvings are inspired by pieces that are
weathered and worn and should not be expected to be a piece of perfection
but a piece of handcrafted art,
including
distressed finishes.
Not intended for marine or exterior use.

Budi's
collection:
*In
the summer of 2022, just before our annual buying trip, one of our
favorite carvers - the talented Nyoman Widarta (aka Budi) passed away.
As a boy, Budi learned how to carve from his father, and had been
carving mermaids for us for over 10 years. His beloved wife passed
in October 2019. She was the inspiration for many of his female
works. During our visit in November, we met with Budi's son at his
studio and purchased the remainder of his collection. This section
will show all items purchased from that collection.
These hand
made pieces are unique and made one at a time (i.e. not mass produced) from
